Joy Watson joined our North Suburban Dermatology Associates team earlier this year from Soderstrom Skin Institute, in Iowa. Joy is a board-certified physician assistant with over 17 years of experience and we are thrilled to have her!
Joy received her bachelor of arts degree in biology from Augustana College, a private school in Rock Island, IL. She then attended Saint Louis University where she earned her Physician Assistant Master of Medical Sciences degree in 2004. From there, Joy went on to work in the surgery department at Medical Associates of Clinton in Iowa, before she began her career in dermatology with Soderstrom Skin Institute in 2009.
Joy specializes in general and medical dermatology, working under the supervision of our board-certified dermatologists. Joy sees patients for full body skin cancer screenings, acne, warts, eczema, rashes, moles, hair loss, rosacea, hyperhidrosis, skin tag removal, patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis, and more.

Why did you decide to pursue dermatology?
I love the variety in dermatology; rashes, skin cancer, performing procedures, treating acne, and so much more.
What is your favorite part of dermatology?
I love having the chance to make a positive impact on someone’s life and how they feel in their skin. I have a passion for patch testing and allergic contact dermatitis. I had a patient who had horrible pruritus (itching) for over 40 years. Through patch testing we were able to identify what was causing the patient’s allergic dermatitis which resulted in clearing up his symptoms completely.
What is your biggest skin care tip?
Always use sun protection – clothing, SPF, sunscreen; and always use a daily moisturizer to keep skin hydrated!
What do you like most about working at North Suburban Dermatology Associates?
I feel very fortunate to be able to work with a kind, caring, and compassionate team who makes patient care their top priority.
