Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma and is comprised of your own blood, separated into different concentrates. The concentrate used is PRP. PRP contains growth factors, which are the small pieces that are responsible for healing and protecting wounds. Because of this, they have many benefits to the skin and we use it in a few different ways, which we’ll cover below.
Most often, PRP is used in a specific treatment, including for hair loss, during microneedling, and even injected for rejuvenation.
While there are many other uses in the medical field, we’ll stick with how it can help your skin specifically.
PRP, filled with these growth factors, is often paired with a treatment where it can aid the overall healing process of the treatment you’re getting.
In the case of microneedling (which we’ll cover in detail below), PRP is used to expedite the average healing time post-treatment as well as enhance the overall benefits because the growth factors can penetrate deeper, healing the deep layers of your skin.
Treatments Using PRP
There are several treatments where PRP can aid and produce even better benefits than a treatment without PRP would.
Here are a couple that we provide:
Microneedling (AKA: the Vampire Facial) – Among the most popular treatments using PRP is microneedling, due to the infamous selfie Kim Kardashian took in which her face looked like it was completely covered in blood.
With microneedling, a trained expert will administer repeated, tiny punctures in your skin, concentrating on fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. PRP is then used topically during or after treatment, where it reaches the depth of the puncture wounds, healing and triggering new collagen growth.
The results: more even tone, smoother texture, fewer fine lines and wrinkles, reduced acne scars, and even reduced acne.
Rejuvenation Injections – If you’re looking to improve very specific areas of your face, you may opt for a PRP rejuvenation injection. During this treatment, PRP is injected into your skin in various places, resulting in more hydrated, smoother skin, reduced wrinkles, and it even treats acne scars.
